Waves linear phase MB

Anyone used the Waves Linear Phase Multiband plug in atall? Just wondering if it is used as like an EQ and a multiband compressor/limiter/expander in one. Does this mean i can use this without the need for a seperate EQ and a seperate mulitband compressor?

All multiband compressors have an effect on eq, since they compress over a set of specific frequency bands. To that end, they will give you some level of eq control. In certain cases/situations it might be enough; however, I do not believe it will eliminate your need for a seperate eq control.

For example, multibands only effect frequency when they exceed the threshhold setting and they will not suffice if you need to notch a specific frequency and also don't provide roll off capability.

Obviously Waves feels the same way, since they package the Linear Phase Multiband with the Linear Phase EQ in their mastering suite.

reason why this doesn't mean that is because there is noway the multiband compressor can be as surgical as a parametric eq and in IMHO sound as good.

I love putting eq before compression kinda making my own multiband eq
