wav to mp3 conversion problem

I haven't been into this recording lark for long but im really starting to enjoy it and impress myself with some of the results im getting,problem is im using Cubase VST32 as recording software from my PC,when i record all my audio/midi files down to a stereo track it sounds sharp and clear,then,and this is probably the problem im using a program called simply 'wav to mp3 converter'after i encode my Cubase Wav file to an MP3 with this program it sounds really muffled like you need your ears cleaned out,its annoying,even at 160kbps and 44-000 mhz.so,are there any good,preferably free wav to mp3 converters out there?thanks in advance!
 
Do a Google search for Lame Encoder. I believe there are free versions available. It is quite good.
 
Anything with the Fraunhofer codec will be just as good as the lame codec too. In fact, I prefer the sound of the Frunhofer codec. But lame sounds pretty good too, just different, and not in a way I prefer.

Blade encoder would work just fine IF you are going to encode higher that 128kbs. 192kbs is the lowest I can encode and not hear major artifacts from the encoding, you may try your encoder at 192kbs to see if it get's better. Most encoder sound pretty good at 192kbs and higher.

Don't know if it has a Fraunhofer codec or even if it does great encoding. I just know it's free, useful, easy, and has many encoding options.
 
why would you even mix down to .wav at all, and then convert to mp3???
All you need to do is, when you do the mixdown in Cubase VST32, just mix it down to mp3 file....
Select "mp3" in "save as type" drop down menu...and then in one below that select the quality of the mp3 file you want....very simple and cool feature that cubase provides, and you don't need no other pieces of s/w

The Fraunhofer codec is not in Cd-ex and blade is unavailable but lame is there.
This is ver 1.4 and 1.5 beta.
 
to get "a good mp3 quality" for a CD???:rolleyes:
Do you burn mp3 on your final CD product???? I don't, and don't think anyone should..I burn .wav files to CDs.....
maybe you missunderstood what I said up there...I said why make a .wav file and convert it to mp3, when you can make an mp3 straight out of Cubase

By mixing down to .wav and converting to MP3, you have the .wav file for your CD and your MP3 file for Internet use.

I did not say "use the MP3 to burn the CD."
 
yeah....the original problem was particularly about the MP3 files, that's why I said that he should mixdown directly to MP3 from Cubase to avoid his .wav--->.mp3 conversion, coz that's what, I understood, gave him problems....but yeah...of course you wanna have a .wav as well....
