flushed... only to resurface!!
Thanks to all who've replied to this thread... one last response to thank those who bothered...
Lt. Bob & mcmd were PM'ed right after their responses... thanks again, guys
sam, the only disappointing thing about you is how humble you are

(ah... but you're baked right now, so maybe that made sense somehow

) Thanks for liking the toon bro.
GT wow! Another well-respected audio guy likes this rough, incomplete tune. Very flattered, GT. The finished version will hopefully be less of a bumpy ride
powderfinger thanks for listening. I was hoping you would; I enjoy listening to your stuff too, man. Is it the acoustic that sounds bad to you? Probably because of the delay on one side of the stereo image... yeah, that will be tightened. Thanks.
Sigma9 [
Chad picks himself off the floor]... words fail, man. A guitarist like YOU saying that about my tone? Incredible. Thanks man

All you guys saying this "rocks" just blows my mind... BTW I'd love to hear a super-clean mix of "Alternative Boy". That song rawks...
erichenryus lol... a stream of conciousness review... love it... seems to be the consensus that something is wrong about the synths... drums are a little strange, yes, and some of them will change... are you saying you disliked the bass guitar? There are a couple flubs on bass, and during the bridge (1) the bass tone isn't wonderful (it's the compression)... funny, cause it sounds good soloed... an EQ problem, no doubt.
And yes... screams are coming!! I just have to get ready for the torn vocal chords that are sure to follow... heh... and the drummer will be off drugs just long enough to put up the next mix

Thanks for your thoughts!
CrankyOne YES! The Crankster listens to my little jingle... excellent.
"But this song just rocks"...

That's cool of you to say! A true heavy-metal arteeste (sp) like yourself saying that makes it mean more... yep... aware of many mix issues, since this is just a roughie... still needs EQ tweaks, level bumps, vocal FX, and a stray guitar line or two. Not to mention the screams

You're right about needing better drum sounds; the tom-toms just sound like ass; the snare doesn't sound bad when I lay off the EQ... (but guess what...?

)
If I can legitimately, legally inject one of my drummer friends full of narcotics, he may 1) have enough energy to record this track 2) be stupid enough to do so for free

I really look forward to your toons, Crankster, and hope you'll hear the remix of this whenever that shows up...

LOL
ALL Parting shouts: Thanks again to all. This thread has been very enlightening, head swelling, and even humbling... a few notes before everything goes to PM:
on Lumber: No master-limiting or mastering-compression took place at all. The version you have was directly encoded from the source mixdown wave...
The mix is loud because it was mixed loud (and in some cases, too loud... the clipped tom-toms are a big no-no

) I managed to keep the mix loud and full in the
outro (only) by pushing the faders to where the balances sounded right, and where they clipped slightly. Then, at each clip, went and did small adjustments to EQ/levels to compensate and put it all into automation...
This is, again, an unfinished product... about 80%... the vision is only partly there. Some good background vox, and some whacky fx and panning would round it out... with a more detailed and careful mix. Thanks for bearing with this boxy-sounding roughie.

Currently working on about 5 songs; one is a cover tune, another is an original (nearly done)... it is much more mellow and sad than Lumber, tho... the other three are just early versions of things I wrote in the past, and am finally re-recording... THEN I can start writing some new stuff...
Enough about me... this place is about YOU GUYS

I love this place; great hangout. I thought today that truly I feel part of a "scene"... a "virtual music scene"... very much like a local city's music scene, without the urine-soaked clubs, cigarette smoke, and cheapo bathroom condom machines

It's a birthplace of sorts for some really great musicians/artists; we get to see it all happen from the front row, and even be a part of it. Some of us are still developing, others are vets from their own real music scenes. It's awesome being able to associate with you guys, and share a few musical ideas.
LONG LIVE HR.COM!!!
