Hello, I Have Lots Of Four-track Experience And Some Studio Experience. I Am Now Ready To Begin From Scratch With Building A Computer For Recording Live Music At My House. I Am At A Standstill In Regards To Where To Begin. Music Stores Don't Really Answer My Questions As Well As I Would Like, They Just Try To Sell, Sell, Sell. If Anyone Can Point Me In The Direction Of Good Web Sites, Reading Mat'l, Or Just Info That Will Help Me To Get Started I Would Be Totally Grateful. Most Of My Questions Are About The Computer And It's "guts". Thanks To Any And All Who Can Help.

:D Yo Jeff Rock & Rholl:

Well, you can go and take some college courses and get hands on some gear experience for very little money if you find a Jr. College or a State college offering classes.

Or, you can call Sweetwater Sound and sound out one of their engineers, like you are scoping out the possibility of buying this new recording program from them and see what they say.

Or, you can just open your wallet, buy something and try and read the manuals that can't be read.

Good luck,
Green Hornet :D ;)  :D

jeff - here are some free tutorials on digital recording on a pc.
try the support section(scroll halfway down the page after clicking on support) at pgmusic.com. youll find they are very informative.
also search under my name. lots of tips posted in past year.
then if you have Q's - just ask. ive posted lots of computer configns, and tips on getting the affordable products in past year. peace.

There are a lot of answers we can all give you on this, you need to be more specific with your question, or try to narrow it down some. For instance do you want to go the PC route or MAC, are you going to strictly use software or some hardware also, are you going to record a lot of audio tracks, use large sample libraries? Or are you only recording "live instruments"? All these things factor into what computer may best suit your needs.

Or you can follow manning1's advice and do a search.

But if you want to learn about the computer "guts" before you tell us what type of recording you will be doing, try this link here.

Hope this helps dude!

Who was using caps?

Read the first post... the first letter of each word was capitalized. I hate that. I knew this idiot from a former job that used to do that randomly... to add "emphasis"... he was upper management material if I ever saw it. :)

LMAO!!! I didnt even realize that!!!! :D That looks hilarious for real!!!!

Why Would Someone Sit There And Actually Have To Hit The Friggin' Shift Key Every Time They Type A New Word???? That Just Doesn't Seem To Make Sense At All. :D

By The Way It Took Me 5 Minutes To Type That Paragraph.

Oh, people! Communication is important, but nobody has to conform to our rules. By the way, I think he may be using software that does the capitlizing for him. There is ONE WORD in Jeff's post that doesn't get the treatment. "guts", and he put quotation marks around it, I think that's why the software didn't catch that one.

Manning1, it would seem, doesn't have a shift key on his keyboard, and nobody says shit about that.

also search under my name. lots of tips posted in past year about pc recording
i think he should just
put that in his post signature so he don't have to
write that in every post he writes you know what
i mean so anyway no harm intended manning1 just having fun at
your expense ok

It's just a pet peeve of mine because of that idiot I once knew. :)

Sorry to hijack the thread.... move along, nothing to see...
