Hi Folks,
I hear and obey. Less guitar solo vol more sax.
Dogman, thanks - you're kind. A little tweaking was done.
Blor007, The gits are stereo - maybe too closely panned. The vox are up now, thanks for the ideas.
Ido1957, thank you kindly. I'm trying to keep the vox up there & tweak away as well.
gbav, that's nice of you - ta.
faderbug, more sax - 'tis done.
Supercreep, I hope thsi version is up when you get to listen.
Timothy, the main guitars were recorded 16 years ago, I actually mic'd up my semi acoustic whilst playing DI for the whoosy b'ground effect. So a tiny bit of rev. and some compression is all really.
David K, I didn't see your comment until after this remix. I'll lift the vox a little next time around. I know Gerry'd like them up again.
I've raised the b/vox a little as well as the sax a lot. Let me know what you think.

There's something about the guitar sound that bugs me. Bass, drums, vocals, everything else is cool. The lead guitar could come forward some. You say you recorded the guitars 16 years ago? Is retracking them an option? They just don't seem to fit, and I don't have the engineering skillz to say why

I think the guitar sound contributes to the uniqueness of the song :) .
The remix is good - I like the way you pan the guitar solo to one side and the sax solo to the other. Just a tad more vocals would be nice ;) . What software are you mixing this on? Do you have to remix/reset everything each time or are the settings "saveable" ?

:) :D :) :D

Hmmmm...it's a tossup for me on the guitar sound. It's not bad sitting back a hair, as the bass gets to carry the melody a bit more, but bringing the rhythm guitar up just a little could be interesting. If you've done that, and not liked it, I can understand. The music is good, and having some sparseness let's everything shine pretty well. Drums seem to fit well with the bass, as nothing gets blurred out.

I like this. I'd be happy with it myself....good sound quality.

It's a nice, clean mix, Ray. I'm not sure if the vocals are too loud or if I'm just used to hearing them lower. But they're clear and audible. I like the tamborine in the bridge (chorus?). Love that guitar panning. It suits the tune very well. Best mix I've heard of this so far.

I cant remember hearing this tune before.

First of I really dig those lyrics.

I think the mix is clean and good.

The rythm section is really cool, and stereo effects are just amazing.

Thanks for sharing mate

Love the bass guitar lines.

Snare could be a little bit.

Tam is fighting with the ride cymbal. However, it's a gorgeous sounding tam. What make is it? Sounds great.

Love the guitar solo... it reminds me of early porno for pyros.

Overall, I'd say the songwriting and arrangement are excellent. The drums could just use a little more juice, and maybe back the tam off a little bit.

I like the ending, Ray. This is worth all the time you're spending on it. Keep it coming.

Hi Folks,
I actually did a count of mixes of this song I've kept on my harddrive. This is #43!!!

hi-fi URL: http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=4421331&q=hi

DavidK & Ido - move vocal - just a hair or two of the main & a bit more b/vox.
Bulls Hit - I could retrack the guitar but the fact that Gtr, bass & the background haze were recorded that long ago gives me an interesting connection with the piece. thanks for the perspective.
Ido - I accentuated the panning on the sax - is it too much? Oh, Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.3 allows me to save mix set ups as a project. I have 16 projects or saved setting of this song. I think I may be a tad obsessive.
Dogman - I lifted the main guitars a little. What think yea?
RAMI - THANKS. it fantastic that so many positive coments are related to your playing.
Nakatira - You are very kind - ta.
Supercreep - I made the assumption you wanted a bit more snap in the snare. I hadn't actually fiddled with Rami's work before but since you are THE DRUMMER FROM LPC I popped an EQ peak in to lift it. Does it do the do? I've also pulled the tam a bit ...it's a 15 year old red semi-circular beast from Taiwan recorded to an MH1 mini condensor - they're nice mics.
Ok Folks - fire away

I like this latest mix. The enhancements you've made (though subtle) are audible and have improved the overall mix ever so slightly. Good suggestions all around. This is a good version to save....

:) :D :) :D

I think this one, the guitar sits a bit better with the bass and drums. It's a more even mix.

Gerry,
Thanks mate, I'm trying to be less heavy handed. I'm still listening if you have anymore ideas.
Dogman,
Thanks also. Does the tweak to the drum EQ make any diff.?

Hey Ray, just heard about your new track over at Ramirami.com... I've heard earlier mixes of this one before and they were pretty cool... this one, well it still sounds like one of my favorites from you... just love the chorus and rhythm. Has a dramatic sort of feel.. I was reading the above comments and gotta say I like this rhythm guitar sound. As far as the lead wah wah part, I think that could up in volume a bit. Overall, good track, very enjoyable listen ;)

RayC,

I keep thinking I've responded to this thread but then I don't see an arrow on this thread title and think I gotta give a reply here just to say I like the current mix but then I forget it.

Anyhoo, I like the upfront vocals. Especially, since in the beginning the vox in most of your tracks used to be behind. It's an interesting thing to experiment with putting the singer above or in the middle of the instruments.

I like the sax/guitar solo. Has a good "jam" feel to it.
