I was working saving a song and it 'froze' half way through the save (~50% complete). I powered the unit off, then restarted it. After restart, all my songs are gone!!!!!! Only an INIT001 song is there. The display indicates only 450 minutes (2000 cap) remaining on the drive so I know my data is there. I am waiting to re-format and restore my backup (thank goodness I backed up before the last 6 hr session) until I see if there is any way to recover. Any ideas?

I had a similar problem with lost data except that when it happened to me, the machine simply failed to store. I called Roland and the techie told me to reinitialize the hard disk, which I did after backing up my other stuff. Now it's working fine. Unfortunately, I lost all the stuff it failed to store; I think once it's gone, it's gone. But I don't have a ton of experience with the 1689 either. Maybe you have a shot at recovering it. Good luck.
