i am working on a song now(althogh i'm still recoreding it, i'm sure i'll keep the volume levels),
and i changes my volume levels in this way:
i group evrey section(rythem section, lead guitars, overdubs, etc..), i solo up each at his turn, and i am doing the level between the tracks inside it, the i doing the level between the groups,

i know this is a newbie question but i'm not a pro and i still learning, am i doing it right or is it a bad way?

p.c. i'm working on adobe audition 3

If I understand you correctly...

Yes...it's a normal approach to treat your rhythm instruments as a coheasive group and adjust the individual volumes within that group...etc.

Of course, in the final mix stages, you may need to make finer, individual track adjustments to really bring things into the best balance possible.
IOW...you can use the group approach, but also pay attention to them as individual tracks too.

Hey miro...Guess what?

I AGREE WITH YOU!!!! ;) :D :D (just having fun)

OP: Yeah, what miro says is right.

That's not to say that any other way is a "bad" way, but what you're doing is fine and common.

If I can just plant something in your head for later after you're more comfortable with the process; don't think of the levels you set using this (or any other) method as necessarily fixed in place. The best engineers know how to "ride the faders", which is a slang way of saying that on any given track the gain level may fluctuate throughout the song in order to emphasize this track in this part of the song or that track in that part of the song, etc.

But don't worry about that too much until you get pretty comfortable setting the basic relative levels technique as you describe. Just planting a seed is all.

that's what i'm doing,
i do each track individualy and then in the gropus i adjust the levels for a good balance

Haha, i remember the panning debate between Miro and Glen. Glad you guys agree today :)
