Cause without some hardware you're gonna get crystal clear silence!

Why do you use N-Track to record when Cubase can record itself?

Your gonna need to get a mic and pre to record vocals. There is no other way to record vocals. Sorry.

You can't. Period. You want crystal clear vocal recording, you'll need a decent mic of some discription and a mic preamp. At the low end of the scale, it could be done for a few hundred dollars but a computer mic into a soundcard is ALWAYs gonna sound like ass.

the easiest way to get your vocals crystal clear would be to put a maximizer on it like the BBE sonic maximizer and crank up the high to taste...may not be the best but it is the easiest and if used tastefully with good mic technique as well as positioning and compression can sound rather good IMO...but you do have more control with an EQ or MB compressor but easier to fuck up the sound also with those tools IMO

There's some decent multiband compression plugins out there. Waves C4 comes to mind, and it isn't bad at all. Ozone also has one if I'm not mistaken. Honestly, C4 is the only software-based plug that I've used where I've been able to say: "Yea, that really clears things up nicely."

EQ is obviously a much easier method with less in the way of learning curve, but it's never really going to impress you as much as if you really sit down and learn how to use the multiband comp the right way.
