what do you have to say about the presonus vxp voice processor...This doesn't have anywhere to plug a mic into does it?

Single channel preamp and processor. One (or two) XLR on rear panel. Saw on ebay this morning for $499.

get the helicon, you wont regret it. it goes new for about £500, (around 860$).

it's an excellent unit, great for backing vocals, mix it in quietly and it gives a wicked thick texture, great for pop music. not only do you get a great vocal processor, (which doesn't just do harmonizing), you get an EXCELLENT preamp. i know one guy who runs a studio near me who bypasses all his O1V preamps and uses the Helicon's preamp. it's really really good. has 48v too.

get it, you wont let go of it!

Priz - the VXP is a preamp.... with added features for handling vocals in particular. Vocals are normally recorded via __________? Hence, the VXP has a connection for a _________?

hmmm... reminds me of those grade-school stories - you know, the ones with the pictures instead of words!

:D :D

Just yankin' your chain Priz! ;)

whats the answer, vocals are recorded through analog I/O, correct? i don't have time to decide, I've found a deal irresistably cheap, never mind, it went up alot... but i'd still like an answer if possible. is a single channel preamp good enuff, or is a stereo one recommended...by you that is?

If you don't do any stero mic'ing of (ie, capturing the sound of something using 2 mics), then you only need a single channel preamp.

If you buy a dual channel unit now, then you have more flexibility - since you don't always need to use the 2nd channel but it's nice to have for the times you do need it!

On the other hand, I currently don't own a dual channel external pre - I haven't run into a situation yet where I've needed it (mind you, the next client I get that requires a mic'd stereo part will be the perfect excuse for the purchase of a Great River mic pre!)
