When we record our vocals and mix them with the rest of the stuff the vocals are to crisp and stand out way to much even after we lower the levels. We run the mic through a preamp and then into the recorder. Is there anyway to make them warmer and fit in better?

First of all what kind of mic are you using on the vocals? Are you using a preamp? Are you mixing directly on the MR-8 or transferring to PC?

Tell us a little more about how you are recording and mixing the vocals.

hot vocals

I have to get a delicate balance between the preamp output and the trim on the channel, i get the signal out from the preamp pretty hot, and keep the trim down so there is no clipping what so ever. I have found some compression and eq will help here also.

hope this helps some

Most important to watch the levels while recording the other tracks......perhaps you need to bring them up a bit. Those bar graphs in the display help a lot. Then the levels can be adjusted when bouncing or mastering to your liking.

Someday I'll learn how to read. Just noticed that you do use a mixer and preamp. How do you have the eq's on the mic channels set.
I use a dynamic mic straight into the MR-8 and I get the best sound when I put the mic setting on 'condenser'.
You say the vocals are too crisp. You might be able to warm them up by cutting between 7 and 10khz.
