Hi everyone!

I'm new to recording and making music, and I would like to do cover songs like these people on youtube

How do I set it to that type of vocal, everytime I record it sounds dry and boring, doesnt sound lively with the instrumentals/background sounds

How do I edit/mix/compress it like those people, what are the settings/plug ins chain and processing

can you guys give me a starting point and tips?

THANK YOU AND MUCH APPRECIATE!

You need to do some reading on the basics (you'll probably be needing EQ, compression and reverb) and let us know what software you're using.

I agree with chame, U need to mix it once you have finished recording and that's my friend includes all eqing, compressing and some dessying.

definately! ive been working with pro tools 8 for about 3 months now and im starting to get the hang of it, but i still cant get my vocals to stand out, it sounds dead and dry and not lively :( im working with

alien ware (window 7)
Pro tools le 8
mbox3
audio technica AT4040 Mic
Mackie MR8 Reference Monitor 2010

this is my lead vocal chain as followed

ssleq (EQ) (of course HP under 150khz) or IZOTOPE OZONE 4?
API 2500 (compression)
Desser

reverb and delay (through an send/aux buss)

should i double EQ or compression? or double my vocals? should i add a gate? or double track? (singing the vocals again?) and i also tried panning, it can only do so much

my room is small with no studio foam so it picks up echo from my voice too, should i move into a bigger room? or could it be my mic?

THANK YOU!
