I tend to do things that you should avoid....but I mainly like a cup of black coffee on the sweet side near by when I'm doing vocals, just occasionally lubricate the throat during the session.
There this herbal tea you can buy in vitamin shops called Throat Coat made by Traditional Medicinals...it's pretty aromatic and has a somewhat strong flavor, though not too bad. With some honey to sweeten it up, it's pretty drinkable.
It is it really does coat your throat and it has a somewhat "slimy" texture, but not in a gross way. So if your throat is getting soar and dry...Throat Coat will give you instant relief and allow you to push on.
I just stop singing if my throat is getting soar and come back to it another time, but then I try to keep my vocal session to 3-5 takes...done. So I rarely get soar from singing.
