Why you gotta be so mean?
How do you guys dull down vista, or is it just unreasonable to use? Unfortunately thats all that was available, and I can not figure out for the life of me how to get rid of it.... So how should I make the best of this? Any help would be great!

Format and load XP. From what I have seen (on my laptop) it is so expansive it would be a real pain to gut. I'm sure someone knows how better than I, but I looked around to try and trim cpu usage and couldn't hardly make a dent.

I have tried that, I bought a blank hard drive, but XP wont read SATA drives and I tried to load the driver, but couldn't get that to work either.

you just have to get the "right" drivers, and install them properly (the F6 dealy during install). finding the right driver for your mobo might prove to be a trick, but i would first try googling the model number and manufacturer.

??

XP reads sata drives just fine, I have 4 of them.

Are you sure you are not connecting the drive to a third party interface instead of the primary?

it may be you have a newer copy of xp

the version i used to have was not happy that i had a sata drive, and i hadto install the third party sata controller first

my impression is that one has to do this for *all* xp installs....

altitude, do you mean you did a fresh install without loading sata drivers during the install?

When I installed a second sata on my xp computer (if I remember right) It would show up in one place (my computer or device manager) but it was un-accessable. I had to go into it via properties page and tell xp what kind of drive I wanted it to be (removabe, etc). After that it worked flawlessly.
I pulled my hair out until I figured that out. I know that it would only show up in one place and the issue was simply assigning the function of the drive.

I thought the same thing, that it would not recognize it, but it knew it ws there and just would not give access to me.

You may poke around the seagate page or another manufacturer. try a search for xp won't rcognize sata drive.

Yes, on the onboard SATA controller (965 ICH8). No drivers, no nothing. Even the marvel controller works without drivers but you cant boot off of it and I needed to install the drivers for the hotswap to work
