VF80 vs. VF160

I'm considering the VF80 ($550 from JD Sound), but have a nagging feeling about spending more to get the VF160 ($899).

Other than the obvious - double the tracks and simultaneous recording of more than 2 tracks, what else is better about the VF160?

My needs are mostly recording stereo acoustic guitar stuff, so more than 2 tracks at once is most likely not needed, yet I wonder about future projects. On the other hand, the $350 saved can buy other gear...

Your needs may not be for more than 2 tracks a pass right now but that will change sooner rather than later.LOL.It always does for all of us......But if you seriously KNOW that you can get along fine without being able to record more than 2 tracks at the same time go for the VF 80 and save the extra cash.Both machines are capable of producing decent demos.

Buy based on what you NEED to satisfy YOUR recording needs.

Also, using a mixer, you can record more than 2 mics at once-- maybe not on separate tracks but if you work that out before hand...
 
I was browsing the specs for each of these again and I noticed that the VF160 can import/export .wav files. I don't see this feature on the VF80. I'm thinking it would be cool to import drum/percussion .wav files on CD - you know, the ones with real drummers. Anyone do this?

I'm leaning towards the 160...
 
the vf80 can import and export .wav files (as long as you buy the one with the built in cd/rw drive

all you need to do is make sure you record your song at the same tempo as the .wav file

then its just a matter of cutting and pasting

having said all that...;-)
a computer beats either of these machines hands down for this purpose (construction of backing tracks)

the vf80 or vf160 IN CONJUNCTION WITH a computer will yield you the best results in my opinion, this is what I'm working towards - I have the vf80
 
VF160CDR all the way. Much more for a few extra Bux. Very expandable.

Yep, use mine with my puter. Makes for an awesome setup. I've gone portable and done Remotes tracking on the VF160 too.

Thanks for the replies. Whatever I buy will most likely be "the one" for a long time, so I'm really thinking about getting more features...VF160.
 
Happy as I am with the 80, I would be even happier with a 160, a headphone amp and 4 headphones. The whole band, all at once:)
