That's exactly how I feel about this debate. Of course the price difference isn't so big anymore (a couple of months ago it was $499 for the VF80) which just makes the decision all the more difficult. Use the $100 towards a preamp like the Studio Projects VTB 1, which is now going for $130. Wether you get the MR8 or the VF80, what will happen is that you will outgrow it very soon.
