Hi, I’m seriously considering buying either a VF08 or a VF80. The Musician's Frnd. ad says the 08 has a compressor? Is this the kind of compression you would use on vocals, and if so, does the 80 have one, too. How many tracks can be recorded simultaneously on the VF80 and the VF08? And, finally, do those units have 3-band EQ like the Musician’s Friend description says? Finally, once you learn how to use it, how do these units sound? I'm trying to decide between an 8-trk digital and a Tascam 424. Any help would be appreciated.

I bought the VF08 a few months ago and it is a very nice piece of equipment. The sound quality is very good and it has some really nice built in effects. The compressor and 3 band EQ are only available during mastering so you can't use them on individual tracks. There are other EQ settings that you can apply to the individual tracks. Only 2 tracks can be recorded simultaneously, I didn't think that would be a problem for me initially but now I wish I had more inputs. The VF16 has more inputs, I believe up to 8 simultaneously. All that being said, if you don't have a problem with only 2 inputs I'm sure you'll be very happy with VF08.
