started a couple weeks back with a tascam 4 channel.the reason I'm writing is because I cant get a good recording on channels 3-4.everything I record there has robbed some of the music on channel one or vocals from channel two.Wanted to know how I can record on these channels without channel 1 or 2 getting into 3 or 4.I know its prob very basic but hey I just stated out....

Those tascam 4-trackers have a reputation for being decent for the money, but I went through two of them with the same problem of having one or more of the tracks crap out on me, receiving the signal but not recording it.

I think the track bleed you are getting may be from recording the other tracks at levels that are too high. Check to make sure your previous recordings are at the recommended levels of the unit. Also, try using the noise reduction when recording tracks. This might remove some of the bleed.

Finally, are you using the recommended tape? Is it a new tape? Try a different tape and see if does the same thing.

And I wouldnt worry too much about bleed if the parts that bleed will be played in the final mix. It won't be noticeable.

thx

the problem also is that the tracks not only bleed to 3-4,they make it virtually impossible for me to equalize/mix whats on 3-4,as every time I raise the levels just a bit they start to distort.I thought there could probably be something techinically wrong I was doing.thx for the advice.

You might get more responses if you post a link to this thread in the Tascam Forum. ;)
