Vegan Power in da house...

Sup sup ladies and germs...im vegan power!
Im a bassist/keyboardist/guitarist/song writer/vocalist...Im fairly new to this home recording game.
Ive been playing since I was 14. Guitar first but then bass came into my life...I like the keys they are my other love...but what I really dig and have always enjoyed doing is writing...I also produce music. I use Fl studio...I like the simplicity of it attracts me...and the step sequencer. Ive also recently started practicing drums...and damn! I love it...its like my other other love hahaha...

I am putting together my first recording set up...and I dont know much but I got ears to listen...

Heres what I got so far...
A boss 532
A boss dr 770
A midi keyboard yamaha kx49

Im looking for suggestions for a nice condenser mic(<100$) a decent enough pre amp at most 200...and what ever else u folk wana suggest.
Oh and a decent mixer too...my budget is 300-400...American! Oh and also...do mixers come with effects? Or preamps...either on neither or depends on the unit...

most condensers use a membrane derived from animal products (sinew) in the capsule so its prolly better to use a dynamic
 
also Id like some suggestions as to what my computer should be running...like sound boards, daws, how much ram...u know things like that...dont be too technicall...im a boonie or whatever we are called.

From what you've said earlier, it seems to me that the most important thing you need to get is an audio interface. Do a search for Tascam, Lexicon, Presonus interfaces. You can plug your gear (including a mike) straight into this, and go from this via USB or ifrewire into your computer.

I have no idea which mike to recommend, because (a) being in Australia, I don't know what you can get for $100 (or less), and (b) I've no idea what your voice sounds like. But I wouldn't worry about getting a pre-amp. The majority of interfaces include preamps for mikes. Nor would I worry about mixer. Just go direct into the interface. You can make use of effects in FL or whatever program you use.

You need to think about how you are going to listen to what you've done. What do you have in mind for monitors?

Unless the quality has changed, you might find you get better results using a DAW based sequencer and drum package..

There's plenty of info hereabouts about suitable interface / mics in your budget range. No need for a mixer unless there's something you're not telling us... dig into some threads and you'll uncover much, but beware, carnivores have written much of the useful information...

You need as much RAM as your computer can take. And max out the virtual RAM too.

When you start recording audio be sure and turn off anti-virus and screensaver programs. Best setup on a PC is two drives, one hosting the DAW software and samples and the other you send all your audio to. 7200rpm SATA drives with mucho cache are the cheapest solution these days.

Check out MAudio interfaces too. USB 2.0 seems to be working pretty well for a lot of people, but PCI is still fastest for audio in-and-out followed by Firewire. Most interfaces these days have phantom power you need for a condensor mic. And 4 inputs and outputs is much more versatile than 2. You need some headphones too. Sennheiser HD-280's are nice and about $100. Or do a search for MoreMe Headphones.

For DAW software Reaper is the hot ticket. $40US. You can demo it for free for 30 days. It should play nice with FL.

yeah man ive been looking at these...mmm i think M audio at guitar center for 100$ American! And these roland 8w something caught my attention too...I just like them cuz they are cheap and the brand...they be 50$ American! Ha but yea man. Also...Whats the difference between an audio interface and a preamp...I know what both are but they both seem to do the same to me...

Alas can an audio interface send out midi? What about the preamp? Or again do some do some dont...
 
A preamp boosts your mic or instrument signal to line level.

An interface converts analog signals to digital 1's and 0's and writes that data to your hardware through your DAW software.

Yeah, some interfaces do both audio and MIDI, and have built-in preamps as well.

Air~boonie and Eye vary....

Boonie was this hot undercover lady policeman in a great TV series called "Spender" that we had here about 18 years ago. I always remember her because in one scene, while discussing her mission with Spender, she mentions that she'll be there to "watch yer back" and he turns to her and says "for a minute there, I thought you said 'wash yer back'". She walks off and says seductively, "well, I can do that too !".
