How necessary would you say it is to have the shockmount for a v67? I'm just gonna use it for vocals and acoustic guitar (solo-no live with a band stuff) on a concrete floor (basement). I'm sure I'd be glad I had one later, but would it be useless if I got one without it for now? And how long do shockmounts last? It seems like those elastic rubber-bandy things would deteriorate after awhile.

Thanks

Well I bought the shockmount that goes with the mic and though I love the mic, the foamy stuff inside the shock mount starting coming off like within HOURS of the first time I put the thing together. I had to rip out all the foam, and while it still works it makes me wonder why I paid $20 or whatever it was for the thing....

I didn't really A/B anything with and without the shock mount, so I can't help you there. Great mic, though.

I bought my V67B at Mars with the optional shock mount. The inside of my mount was lined with black felt, held at either end of the inner ring but otherwise loose.
The mic tended to move the felt around so I glued it down to the inner ring.A review I read online warned about his shockmount being loose but mine is a very tight fit to the mic.
Do you need the shockmount?Maybe not.Does it help eliminate transmitted noises caused by being coupled to the floor?Yep.Cheap sound insurance too.

Yeah the felt in mine is starting to come off too...but if I'm just careful about inserting the mic it works fine.

I think you definately should get the shock mount. It makes a lot of difference, especially if you don't have solid floors.

My mount is so damn tight I could hardly get it on, and now I just barely managed to get it off without scratching the mic. Won't try that everyday... Think I got the wrong mount (purposed for the 2001), though.

I have one green and one black V67 and I've always hated the look of the green/gold one. I changed the body between the mics and I now have a Gorgeous black mic with a brass grill (looks very expensive=good) and one not so beautiful "camouflage" mic with green body and black grill. It's better than the green/gold, though.
