Dammit, Jim, Shut Up!
And hopefully the last. Re worked the drums and got them sitting pretty good now, I think. If you just joined in, this is a collab between me, erichenryus(drums) and Lt. Bob (sax section). If you were curious about the fix, this is it.

The song is Ain't Goin' Back Again

Thanks for your patience, comments and insights. I wanted to get this up now because my immediate future looks pretty busy, productionwise. Unless I get a brilliant brainstorm and write and record something tonight:D

I really dig this one, Crawdad! Especially the line about your "mis-spent youth"! I can relate to that! Very solid groove.

Bob

OK I'm a listening........sounds more in time to me. The mix sounds about the same . You didn't change that did you? Didn't need any changes. The drums sit much, much better. What exactely did you do?

Sounds much better,I like the drum sound, you can really hear them now in context with the rest of the song.

Fantastic job guys,just great!

Pete

Hey Crawdad,
Yeah man, thats alot better. Very cool of you to put in the work.......

Damn nice! I neglected to congratulate Lt. Bob and Eric in my previous post in the other thread. Great job, guys!
I listened at much louder volume this time, and noticed some very cool detail...the horns are sizzling, drums are right on the money, and your singing, as usual, superb. With every listen I dig the delivery and words more and more. Did I mention the killer slide?

What can I say. My girlfriend and I just sat here and went through your entire catalog. I'm not worthy! Great slide work on this. Not sure aout the verb on the saxes but that's just a matter of preference. That sounds like a record.

just wanted to say a job well done....

didn't hear it the first time but excellent all around...

/dmm

Sounds like it's fixed now Crawdad.

I think you can put this one to bed!;)

Hey - This is the first time i've heard this so I gotta say -very nice.

liked the guitar sound in the intro.

The vocals were smooth.

How did you record the lead guitar?? (whoever it was)

very nice

nice stuff....good fixes on the drums.

if you wanna be picky..you could say the hh sounds a little weird when it played by itself (2:44+--), and a little "ticky" sounding thruout the song...
also..the mix has a feel to it that the band is 'back' a bit...and not so much 'upfront'...with all the mono sourced instrument sounds...and the stereo sax section set 'back' with the reverb. Not a bad thing, but just a flavor that seems to be different from many, who just try and make it sound 'larger than life'.

ya just need some gtr feedback now...ya can cut and paste out of that wonderful last post of mine if ya wanna....NOT!!!!

really nice tune.. really nice tune...

Well, all these comments really make my day and I feel relieved too!

Buffalo Bob--thanks for the listen--and I dug your instrumental thing too!

Lt. Bob--I just worked on the drums until they sounded right to my rhythmically challenged brain! I did a fairly big shift on the snare, and I slight shift on the HH and toms, bringing those all earlier. Luckily, I had submixed the horns already and had automated the vocal, piano and rhythm guitar. It was just a question of getting the new drums and the bass, and lead guitar back to where I had them. After I had all that, I bounced it down to a stereo mix and ran that through the same overall EQ as the last mix and through a limiter. I had the old mix on a stereo track, so I could go back and forth comparing the old and new. Whats funny is the late snare didn't really bother me too much, but after i did the shifts it really sounded late in those comparisons between the old and new. Hey, did I ever tell you I love your playing?:D

Muzeman--Thanks! I agree. Also, extra thanks for sticking with this whole progression!

Guernica--Thanks again. I HAD to put in the work cause it was a collab and i owed to the others to finish it right. Had it been my track alone, I might have sluffed off. I learned a ton from doing this though--the kind of education I'd pay for!

jamal--:D I think there are reasons why some of us are drummers and others aren't! Thanks for the extra listen--I'm starting to feel OK again!

mkg--aren't these guys great?! Hey, I'm glad you cranked it up! I think it sounds cool at high volume (I'm trying to blow out my car stereo speakers!). You know, this may be a crazy thing, but one of the things I do when checking the bass--besides listening to the track itself--is I look at the woofers in my monitors. If I see them traveling when the mix is cranked, it means theres too much bass. On pro mixes, they don't move. I think its why they roll off 40 and down when they master stuff--its kind of useless energy down there.

Track Rat--coming from you, I take that as a huge compliment and--let me say thanks for erichenryus and Lt. Bob too! Oh--and thanks for the pics of your studio. man--that patch bay looks like a daunting task! you did such a pro job on it--unbelieveable!

mcmd--hey, I appreciate you listening. Lucky you--you missed the long thread that this started with!

Kramer--Yeah! To bed!

yiordanaki--Thanks! the guitar was recorded with a SM57 and it was tube amp. I used a Tubescreamer as an effect for the dirt. i did the ol' 808 mod to it.

Ah! Now I feel like I passed my BAr exam or something. i sure appreciate you all for taking your valuable time to listen an listen again. Now, maybe i can quit writing and start listening to some music here in the clinic!

ahhhh! much better. thanks for fixing this up crawdad. only thing i'd like to hear is something at a higher bitrate. when i download it's only 128.
