My Alesis compressor 3630...began to act funny...now its a piece of crap....

I had no problems for 8 months, everything was peachy since Im a minimalist. Then on Tuesday of this week, I patched it in the insert of channel 2 to do some bass for a song Ive been working on. I did the bass parts..no problem. I went and ate dinner and came back to do some guitar overdubs and forgot where to reset the settings and repatch the 3630....oooops, I pegged the snot out of it and the gate quit working on the B channel. Crap...Crap, Crap.... I turned it off and walked away...
Later that night I went back in to finish the overdub and the gate was now working...huh...weird, I didn't change a thing in the chain or anything... Then on Thursday I went to redo one rhythm track and the bass, but when I got to the bass redux, the 3630 was making a clicking noise as soon as the signal hit it...Were talking, 1.5:1 ratio, everything was pretty mild, the bypass clicked, every stinking button clicked..what the heck... Dang...Crap..for crying out loud! So much for that...
So now I have the Alesis 3630 depressor...and Ive got to save for something decent, a compressor with a gate, cheap but effective... I think I can use it still on the marshall 1/2 stack, because its so loud the click gets buried in the mix, but when it comes to vocals and bass parts without the rhythm guitar, the click is pretty notable. Im not sure other compressors would have survived the overload or not, but Im still gonna need something better... Sorry to gripe.....

Peace,
Dennis
