I just purchased a set (5 piece) of Ddrum Triggers XLR inputs and my question is it possible for me to assign a midisound/ or a VST intrument to each channel using my Presonus Firestudio Project?
EXAMPLE: Lets say I want the sound of a trumpet to be played, or a bird chirp everytime I hit the snare drum.

I've only recording with mics, so these triggers are new to me. Could anybody help my out? -Thanks

Well, drum triggers require a module to create the sound. The trigger simply senses when a drum is hit, and how hard, then sends a signal (just a low voltage) to a drum module. The voltage activates the module which generates the sound of a drum, or other sound, and sends it to an amp, mixer, recorder, or anything else (like your Firestudio.)

Your Fisestudio is only a preamp for mics and acoustic instruments and cannot generate samples or drum sounds. Nor can the triggers alone. If you only have the triggers and Firestudio then you are missing a vital piece of gear that belongs between them.

To get an idea, here are some you can browse through. http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/cat--Electronic-Drum-Modules--2499

Good luck.

Yup, you need a drum module. The drum module will play samples and/or generate midi info from each hit. You would need to take the midi info and use that to trigger the trumpets or birds.

well like the other people are saying, you missed the most important part

you seem to be on a low budget so the cheapest way to get this working would be buying an alesis (midi/usb only) module

just go form your trigger to the module, and from the module to your computer/midi interface

Thanks everybody for your help, got a roland drum brain which works great. :)

I have a TD-6 (the full kit), and I'm thinking about getting a couple of triggers to use it live, or I might just take a couple of pads for different snare sounds etc. in the odd song where I want them!
