USB Mixer and/or Sound Card

Hi All,

Just setting up my first studio and wondering if I need to buy a USB mixer AND a pro audio sound card or does the USB mixer take over the functions of a souncard and therefore I would not need to purchase both? I recently purchased the Yamaha MW10C.

You can use the Yamaha as your 'soundcard' - note that it limits you to only 2 separate tracks that can be recorded at once - however you can 'mix down' on the mixer to those two tracks, you just will not be able to separate the mixed-down signals once recorded. IF you need to record more than 2 tracks at once, forget the Yamaha and get an interface that can handle all the tracks you need at once.
