USB midi controllers

I see some cheap midi controllers for sale at MF (Midiman Keystation, Studiologic CMK161). Both claim to be powered via USB. Question is, can they be powered without the USB? I don't want to drag a computer to gigs. Any other opinions on these 2 midi controllers?
