hello all

so im upgrading my home studio, which was basically me micing an amp straight to my soundblaster card, and mixing it all digitally.

but alas, things evolve.

im buying the m-audio firewire 1814, and eventually, will use its inputs to record some simple drums.

i have an alesis studio24 mixer here, which i know nothing about, but will learn.

if i mic my drums... and go to mixer... i must output from each channel i inputed on, correct? the outs are in the rear, lined up with each channel, of course.

but i dont get what kind of cable goes in there?
its not RCA. its not 1/4 guitar ones.
a 1//8 fit... but that cant possibly be it, can it?
i would line out from there and go to my firewire 1814, which are simple 1/4 inputs.

so what cable do i buy?
here is the specs of the rear panel of the mixer i got at alesis's site.
i didnt make much sense of it:

Rear/Top Panel Jacks:
Mic In on XLR x 8, Line In on balanced 1/4" x 8, Channel Inserts on 1/4" x 8, Stereo Channel In on 1/4" x 8, Stereo Aux Returns on 1/4" x 4, Aux Sends on 1/4" x 2, Group Outputs on 1/4" x 2, Group Inserts on 1/4" x 2, Main Outputs on 1/4" x 2, Main Inserts on 1/4" x 2, Tape Inputs/Direct Outputs on phono (RCA) x 16, Main Outputs on phono (RCA) x 2, 2-Track Tape Inputs on phono
(RCA) x 2, Control Room outputs on 1/4" x 2,
Monitor outputs on 1/4" x 2.

I can't find a picture of the back panel online. You could always use the Insert jacks and plug the cables in only halfway - to the first 'click' - that would get you the preamped signal, pre-eq to your recording interface.
