I had an SDR 100 years ago, and really did not know what I had (still looking for my sound then). Thanks Don for convincing me to try it again. I was able to pick one up off Ebay and just got it today. I fired it up and my tastes have surely matured. I am digging it!

Just a little follow up for me. I ended up getting a Kurzweil Rumour and I'm pretty pleased. It's definitely sounding better than the ITB verbs I had been using. Of all the settings on this unit, to me, some of the small halls are the richest and most natural sounding verbs. Some of the plates sound really good on vocals as well. Still need thousands more hours of use to really explore this unit, but at least for now, I'm pretty happy with the purchase. I'd definitely recommend hardware verbs for those that have never tried them.
nice.
as a matter of course, one doesn't need a pcm to add subtle almost invisible verb to lots of tracks and make it improve the mix as described above.
lots of very good older lower end units can do that well, but it takes much more work.
Great post...totally agree. It takes a more work, and you can't push the low-end units hard, but it can definitely be done.

Yep...that was my experience as well when I switched to hardware years ago. I love to use long pre-delay times to set a nice, dark background for vocals and guitars. The Rumor and the Rev-5 get way more use than the plugins.

Interesting. . I thought at first that the total wet track actually sounded pretty bad, but, when I put it in the mix with the dry track the results were much more pleasing and subtle, and easier to control than I have been able to get with the plugs.
It's got me thinking.
Interesting. I've been using reverb plug-ins with varying degrees of success for a while now.
The other day just for kicks I pulled out an old ART FXR unit that I have laying around from my 4-track days. It's the only hardware verb that I have in the house, and admittedly not highly regarded. I recorded it full wet to a dedicated track, and then mixed that with the original dry track with curious results.

I really want a Bricasti m7. Anyone have $3600 I can have?
