Unhappy with my NTK...

Alright chess you're right...i have been fairly day to day when it comes to mics in the past week. Whenever i can't decide on something that's got anything to do with recording, i make it my priority to figure out. But until that time, i go crazy and post on here fifty times a day until i figure out what the hell is going on.

The good thing is...now that i've overcome my vocal mic issues you won't have to hear from me for a little while until the next problem arises.

i'm glad i finally settled on one and i appreciate everyone's help and advice.

first44, before you settle on any of the three mics you took home and tried, please hear the c414b/uls and the at4033 with your preamps. You just might be surprised. And pleasantly surprised at that.
 
i have to agree with cyanjaguar, i couldn't find a mic that suited my voice until i was in a real studio and sung one note into a AKG414 - there was no turning back. The blue dragonfly might be that mike for you, you know when it is. and more to the point other people know when it is. if people listen to your vocals and can tell when one mic is that much better you should go with it. Try the AKG414.
 
I just don't know where i'd be able to try one of those out. The guitar center near here doesn't have them and i don't think many would be as cool as they are about me just taking them home and bringing them back the next day. I'll definitely look into it though.

ha ha, if only GC had those in stock, they would've been gone too and suddenly that store wouldn't have a display case anymore.

oh well, that's what they're there for. If they were a little cooler and actually cared about the people that walked through the doors they might have gotten my sale.

Brandon, that BLUE dragonfly sounds real good. I listened to your clip from the mp3 clinic again and I'm just really impressed with the sound. No cheap brightness or hype . . . not even a hint of siblance, just very smooth and transparent. I'd hang on to it.

You're probably one of the same people that bellyaches about stores not allowing their customers to return mics.

Enjoy it while you can. No store can afford to give out mics to the general public forever, and have those consumers return them and go somewhere else to purchase.
