The Focusrite Red line was one of the original line of high end solid state components that became one of the standards for top professional "british' sound. The Red line includes mic preamps, compressors, and eqs, as well as various combinations.

The Blue line is even more expensive, with features like detented pots specifically aimed at the mastering market.

A few years back, they added a Green line (which looked like it's exterior was designed by Fred Flintstone) which was a "budget" set of offerings that never seemed to catch on. Now the Silver line is even more budget-oriented. Comparing the Silver to the Red is like comparing a Mackie to a Manley.

The Focusrite Red products had such a high "status-factor", as well as being one of the most aesthetically beautiful visual designs (with the famous red brushed-metal with the round glass VU's and art-deco knobs), that they even sell a "fake" red faceplate for those who want to impress clients with a phony rack. (Then again, some clients have impressed me with their phony "racks", so I guess it's only fair...)

I was only kidding about Behringer being able to make a cheap "Red" clone. But if they ever could... WOW!

If Behringer IS going to go in that direction, can I put in my request (and deposit) for the Denise Richards, Vivica Fox, Julia Stiles, or Minnie Driver models?
 
I really don't know if they have any of that in the works, LD, but I have heard rumor that they'll be working on the phony "faceplate(s) for those who want to impress clients with a phony rack. " :D
