I've searched the forums and I'm getting frustrated. I have a latency issue and am hoping someone can help me out. I have Adobe Audition CS5 and am recording through a Toneport UX2. I've used line 6 Monkey to make sure that I have all the updates for the drivers. I'm running Windows 7. Also, my computer's pretty beastly and I shouldn't be running into any issues. I'm running an i5 core processor with 8gb ram. I'm hearing some crackling and popping during playback but also the recordings are soooo off time it's driving me insane. My buffer size is set at 1024 and the "toneport and usb streaming" setting is at small. If I put the buffer size any smaller it makes a long crazy crackling sound that occurs when nothing is even playing. I've got the toneport set as my default sound output in the control panel as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Well, the first thing to do is open up Task Manager and see what processes you have running in background--then kill anything you can possibly live without, starting with Wifi and your anti virus software. Both those are generally programmed to be able to grab as many processor cycles as they need whenever they need them and rarely "play nice" with recording.

What form of driver does your UX2 provide? I notice that it's a discontinued device...are there ASIO drivers for it. ASIO is a far lower latency form of driver and Audition is optimised for using them.

At 1024 samples your buffer along is creating about 40ms of latency which is far too much--imagine watching your guitar from 40 feet away. That's the sort of lag 40ms equates to...and that's just the buffer.

A final question...I don't know the UX2 but does it provide any kind of option for direct monitoring rather than "round trip"? Monitoring via the input and output of a computer is rarely successful and most good interfaces let you monitor the input mixed with computer playback.

Thanks for the quick response. It does have ASIO drivers and I am currently using them. Also as far as the processes that I am running, I can't imagine it's enough to really bog anything down. I looked at the CPU usage and it's usually about 19 to 23%.

It's possible that this is a bug in Audition.
Are you on the Audition CS5.5 forums?

Have a look for the topic 'How to make latency compensation work? OR - suggestions for a small interface that DOES work?'

Hey man Im having the same deal with n i7 quad core..with only drum programs.....for latancy....but I git pops every other new project in Reaper ..the program that handals VSTs very well...I have to say ...i have never heard a pop in Adobe....super clean....so I use Reaper for tracking and Adobe for editing.
