Unpossible!
What do you guys think is better - the UAD-1 or Waves Plugins?

Thanks,

NL5

I prefer the UAD-1, but with waves your aren't limited to the DSP on the card which can be a plus if you have a computer with a lot of horsepower. The efx on the UAD-1 card are lacking IMO, but I really like Dreamverb and the vintage compressors rock

Now that UA finally introduced their new limiter for the UAD card (which makes the L2 sound like junk IMHO), I officially don't EVER use my Waves plugs anymore.

That's about all I can tell you.

Granted, I might have a slightly more "narrow" selection that I draw on normally than someone who would be mixing a lot. However, it seems that most Waves/UAD users that I know basically feel the same way.

I have read that the UAD-1 doesn't interface very well with Adobe Audition, so I'll stick with Waves.

to paraphrase fletcher 'A poke in the eye with a blunt stick is more pleasant then L2'

even in my earlier recording stage(when I had no clue) I didn't like what it did to the sound, the plug-in anyway.

The EQ and Compression plugs in UAD-1 kill my Waves Renaissance Plugs. There's really no comparison.

not in every application IMHO. for transparent compression I wouldn't be looking to the UAD, ren comp is definilty my compressor of choice for that duty.

OK,

You guys convinced me to get the UAD-1. Now, which one?!?!?!?!

It looks like I have three choices. The old version, the project pak, or the studio pak? What's the diffrence? I don't have a huge budget, so I am looking at used as well.

Thanks,

Here's a link to a chart that show what comes with each version, and what is optional. The old version distributed through mackie in no longer available new. I ahve the mackie version and absolutely love itl I use the 1176SE and the Pultec every chance I get. Here's the link:
