UAD-1 card: Is PC & MAC version identical?

Got a great deal at GC on a UAD-1 card... problem: It's PC version; need it for the Mac...

Did this on purpose, because of the deal. Now I gotta find out:

Is the UAD hardware (the card) identical for both the PC & MAC?

and... if so...

can I just download the proper software from Mackie to set up the card for the MAC?

(Tried signing up at the Mackie boards; but a moderator has to admit new members... still waiting on that...)

Could wait until Monday and give mackie a call, but I'm an impatient bastard

This is usually the case: the hardware manufacturer usually creates a generic type hardware interface and develops software for different OS's. Check if the original release of the card was PC only. If so I'd wait to find out from UAD. If the first version of the card was PC and MAC but only came with one type of software, you'll be safe to try installation.

In fact, if they have MAC drivers and software online I'd give it a try. I don't see what you could hurt. I really doubt the card manufacturers would waste money on two different cards.

good news!

Called Mackie this morning; the tech guy stated flat-out that they are the same card. Also, much to my excitement, he said all I had to do was download and install the software for the Mac.

Did it; I'm stoked! (And I didn't pay a lot for the card )

Now, if I could just find my copy of LM4 for re-install, I'd be set

Thanks for the input, Jake, as those were my thoughts too... Why build two separate parts?

"Disk Warrior" by Alsoft fixed most of it, but I had to reinstall Cubase...

Then, LM4 wouldn't work at all... (sigh) Where did I stick that disk?

He knocked $100 off the price... paid about $500 + tax...

Now everyone's gonna go to GC and demand the same price... oh Lord
