Some of you guys weren't here when Alan showed up........

The thing about the C-1 vs U-87 seems to go like this........

When Alan first posted about his new mic, way back when they first came out, he said IN HIS POST that industry people were saying it sounded like a U-87.

And it's obvious that even if the original intention was to use the 87 as a reference that the resultant "myth" of a showdown of sorts between these two mics was born.

And while Alan will quickly point out that HE WASN'T THE GUY that said "Hmmmm this C-1 sounds like a U-87"

It's not like he's killing himself to end that myth.

I wonder how many C-1's that little urban legend has sold?

You guys think what you want and buy what you want. I'm just posting because I was here when Alan came on the scene here.

Myself, I won't buy SP because I don't like doing business with communists. The Chinese are communist, BTW. As far as I can tell, Alan is a capitalist!

Also, I don't begrudge Alan his success with this product. Obviously the public wants this stuff.

Stepping into flame suit....................

C7sus, its hard to believe you dont own anything made in China.....wow, i applaud you man.....

I'm not saying I'm hung like a horse, but the ladies keep saying it.

Some people seem to get me confused with Alan, but it's really easy to tell us apart, if you just remember this one simple rule:

I'm better looking than Alan.

Lol, and that's the truth, and Alan doesn't look bad either.

Hey, when are you going to post your Marshall Electronic and Studio Projects mic reviews? I know its not something your looking forward to posting but, I for one am sure looking forward to reading it. Hint, hint, lol.

Harvey is also much more modest than Alan!!

Sorry I don't know how to quote

I think you mean Alan, not Harvey.

*Just clarifying*

You are absolutely right. I must apologize. Nothing personal to either of you. I have a VERY hard time with names. It once took me six months to remember a girlfriend’s last name. No that is not why we broke up, we dated for three years, so shut up. (I have to say that a lot.)

Sorry, I've been busy.

To respond to DJL's question, no.

But I still like the U89 better than the U87, too.

And I am 26, my ears have years of wear left in them.

C7sus, I usually stay away from politics, but there's one thing I must tell you: communist or capitalist - basically the same thing, really. I knew you probably grew up being told that this is a question of right or wrong, good or bad. It wasn't too different for me either, as I grew up in West Germany, the inofficial 51st State of America. As it happened we got reunited with East Germany, and, as I got to know people form there, my world view started to change. Both communism and capitalism are essentially schemes to keep the power in the hands of very few, be it political leaders or industry leaders. You may say: well maybe, but I can think and speak freely. And I say: yes, that's true, but a) nobody listens and b) you're not given all the information you need to form an independent opinion. I mean what do you *really* know about what's going on in the world, in Irak, Afganistan, Russia etc except what people want you to know. The press is not *that* free. Often enough you only get to see what the government wants you to see. Take for instance the Gulf war. In the end, wereever you are, there will always be people who tell you what to believe, what to do, etc. Capitalism is just a little more subtle, in that at least the illusion is created that you are free.

Anyway, what I wanted to say is: there's no reason to boycott Chinese or Russian products. People there are just the same as you and me, and they're not prisoners either. I mean, at least no more than you and me.

Just my 2 euro cents. I hope this doesn't start a big political discussion.

Right on, thanks.

To be fair though, the u87 varies quite a bit mic to mic. There is one studio in Cincinnati that has some very old u87's, probably some of the first in America, that people go to just to use those mics.

Also, I like my personal voice better on the C1 than on any U87, or nearly any other mic I have tried. I was using a Lawson L47, but I have replaced that with a C1 for my own voice.

Just to be fair, I think its a good thing the C1 doesn't sound like a U87.

And the new '87's aren't supposed to sound as good as the old...
