You may be right about there not being more Berhinger Lovers and that they just stay around longer...BUT non of the bashers I have seen ever suguest anything else. They just say...Don't use that it=radio shack...OK, for the money what to you suguest I use?

That is so ABSOLUTELY not true. Many posts here have provided reasonable alternatives. I have read these posts but do not recall them at this time. As I have no personal experience with them, I cannot give you tips. But they are there. The search function will help you.

the way i see it, some folks are happy when beri gear. maybe they can't hear the difference, and if not, more power to em.

however, i, and many other folks around here, *can* hear the difference, and we try to advise people to not throw their money at gear that is grainy sounding and unreliable at best.

i have a beri headphone amp, and it does what i need it to do--get 4-6 sets of headphones LOUD for when i'm tracking a band live in 1 room. i don't use it for anything that involves sonic decisions.

there are MANY other places the budding home recordist can invest their hard-earned clams and get FAR better performance for a slightly higher increase in cost. some names that immediately come to mind are CAD, MXL, Studio Projects and Audio Technica. others like rane, symetrix, ashly, etc., can all be found on the used market and generally provide far higher bang for the buck. if you look around here, you can find MANY posts recommending excellent alternatives to beri gear.

Hmm, I seem to remember back when Mackie was undercutting everybody and the name was being slammed too--I even remember techs for the bands saying that Mackies were cheap knockoffs...Now that their prices are closer to that of their direct competition (indeed higher than many), that memory is vague to nonexistant in the guys who used to tell me Mackie was ripoff junk...

It'll be interesting to see where Behringer and a few others stand in everyone's eyes in 10 or more years...

Good point, but the catch is that the cheap Mackie gear from years back is still better than the cheap Behringer gear has ever been.

and mackie, to the best of my knowledge, never actually reverse-engineered another company's product, had it made in china at pennies on the dollar, and then slapped their name on it.

....and that's pretty much ALL beri has ever done. hell, beri's even ripped mackie off.

and you've gotta feel sad about/for a company that has to rip mackie off. :D

Uh actually, not to get into a match with anyone, but the last guy I talked to who'd had both brands opened up (both boards, of course), told me he was surprised that Mackie was using cheap faders compared to the Behri....I'm not gonna argue overall value, shit, I HAVE a Mackie and love it, but from what I've heard Mackie's been raising prices and going to the seconds bin for parts...
