Ok guys, as ever, writen and performed by me, recorded on my Fostex VF160, let me know what you think (about the songs and the mix).

Follow this link to my web space, the songs can be found at the bottom of the first page.

My Home Page

The two new songs are "Mainstay" (which has a kind of Yes groove) and "Stand Your Ground", which is much more hard rock. Feel free to listen to the others while you're there...

Thanks, Dave.

Mainstay
the vocals are cool... took me by surprise... very STYX like... guitars aren't raw enough for me... but my taste

Stand Your Ground
I'm not sure about this one... seems to be missing something... again, the guitars aren't heavy enough for me... sounded too much like they're directly out of a amp modeler without cabinet emulation... no bite to the guitars... just kinda buzzy-fuzzy... not big enough... maybe add a touch of ambience to the guitars and the whole mix... but be careful

overall both tunes seem to be missing some upper mids... almost like a blanket over the whole mix but not quite... the vocals seem to be missing presence

Regardless, cool tunes and I liked them... a lot of talent...

Sounds good to me. Did you do the drums yourself on the fostex?

Drums

The drum kit is recorded directly into the Fostex VF160, and I use some of the internal effects to get the sound I want.

It's taken me a great deal of trial and error to nail the drum sound.

Checked out "Mainstay". You sound just like Weird Al :D

There is a great tune in here somewhere. First the bad news: There are timing issues with the drums. I'm not sure if I bought the melody line delivery, sounded like you wanted to do One Week by BNL and it came out sort of feeling rushed. Seems to be a bit out of your range at times but I think you hit the notes, you just need to do it again.

I can tell a lot of work went into this, I think the song is worthy for a good finish.
