I was looking at tuning forks on eBay and I see that a lot of them are listed as medical instruments. What use do they have in the medical field?

Neurologists and audiologists use them to assess hearing loss. And the medical ones are absolutely the best there are.-Richie

I hadn't thought of that. :D I've always associated them with crystals and incense and razor-sharpening pyramids.

I'm wondering about using one as a cal tone for StroboSoft.

A tool for anyone wanting to use sound to balance and enhance personal energy. These tuning forks are tuned to octaves based on the time for planets to revolve around the Sun. A precision set of 11 tuning forks calibrated to the tones of the Sun, Moon, Earth, Mars, Venus, Jupiter, Neptune, Mercury, Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto. The exact tones were calculated by Hans Cousto, the Swiss mathematician. These tuning forks are precisely tuned with cosmological and astrological timing. Includes Sun (transcendence), Moon (sexual energy), Earth (relaxation and meditation), Mars (creativity, will power, masculine), Venus (love, harmony, feminine), Jupiter (art and creation). Neptune (intuition & dreams), Mercury (communication & voice), Saturn (concentration & awareness), Uranus (spontaneity & openness), Pluto (group & interpersonal integration). Comes with its own pouch.
NEW! 11 Planetary Tuning Forks PERSONAL ENERGY Bid $99

I'll take one..

When I lost my hearing in my left side, they used tuning forks as part of a bone conduction test to help to determine the type of injury. Clang the fork and touch it to a hard-knobby part on your skull and enjoy :D

Benyah asks- "Do people still use tuning forks in the age of digital tuning devices??"

A look at the equipment of any top professional piano tuner will answer that question. Nothing beats a great set of forks and a great set of ears. For straight-out frequencies, the best strobe tuners will beat most humans pretty badly. For the best tempered tuning, the best humans still win.-Richie

HAHA. That's great. So the fork for the sun will have a frequency of zero or infinity? - bases on the time it takes to revolve around itself.

Also amazing how the frequencies happen to correspond to exact notes (C,D,A,G,G# etc.) and that these notes don't have defined frequencies, but are 'according to specifications'.

And they are being sold in India, but no bids from India are accepted. Only international payments! Why WOULDN'T you trust that auction?
