Man, I'm pretty impressed with this mix as it is. Lots and lots of lower midrange. That bass is deeep. I like the tom sounds as well. Really I think everything works. (i'm not listening on a nice system at the moment though)

wow,

Aaron, you sure know how to cut a clean mix, and as in your other songs I am just green with envy about your low end.

I like the groove of this song. cool ,man!

THanks for listening!
It's funny, but I hate this mix. I did it a while back (I was much younger then :) ), and here is what bugs me:
It seems too compressed. It also sounds muddy to me. The horns are just not done right. I don't know why. They just don't sound cohesive.
Anyway, it sounds as if some of my criticisms may be self-inflicted. I'm gonna remix it anyway! It's going on an album I'm working on, and I want it to be just right. I know that will never happen, but I'm gonna try anyway.
I really appreciate you guys taking the time!

Yo' Aaron (anybody who has the same name as mine
is definitely down in my book!), "downtown" is smooth.
Horns smoked, and your git technique is on the money!
Excellent production!

This one is pretty funky. I like the synth tones that came and went.
As for the horns- you need some short choppy blasts of baritone sax to round out the sound.

.....sorta' like that "Tower of Power" horn-bottom,huh doc!!??

Thanks everybody.
The horns that are on there now are NanoSynth horns. I'd love to try a bari to give it a porky bottom end, but it will depend on what the Nano can give me. Some of the sounds on there are less than great, and it's the only synth I own.
If only I had a great brass section at my beck and call! Does Tower of Power ever work for pizza?

That was the Nano from Alesis!!?? Damn, I thought those were real horns!!!!!!!!

Aaron, it's amazing what you do at home.

I do wish you could fit a live horn section in your study.

I agree with you that it sounds a little too compressed. I'm not sure how to say this, but it's almost too perfect. I'd like to hear the vocal harmonies swell up a little more, and I'd like to hear the lead guitar cut through some more -- maybe like a little more gain and less verb.

And you know, "you can always go, DOWNTOWN..."
