OK, so here's a good one for you tube enthusiasts,....

if you had a choice of name brand tubes for the Preamp slots in your favorite amp,..... would they be,....

Telefunken, RCA, Mullard Made in Great Bri,Amperex Bugle boy from Holland,...Brimer also Great Bri, Phillips , Sylvania,GE, or some of the new ones by GT,JJ,Sovtek,or Svetlana,....?????????

I have several of the older ones, and even used they just seem to have more sparkle or something,.... better mids on the top names,... and generally are a much more appealing sound,.....

Anyone got an opinion on this,.....??

I think old tubes were made better, and a lot more consistently, if made by a reputable company. It still depends on the amp and still the sound varies a bit from tube to tube. I guess I'd say- send me some of each and I'll let you know! :D

i love my stash of telefunken 12ax7's, but really i have found that the new EH 12ax7's are extremely close to them. they just break up a little faster than than my tele's. they are my preamp tube of choice now.
but other than that i really like the sound of jj/tesla tubes.
and you couldnt pay me to put most all sovteks in my amps, which includes Groove tubes (however GT does match and select much higher grades than your generic sovtek).
