I'd bet ready money this question has been asked, but I don't remember it: putting a tube mic through a tube preamp yields what kind of sound? Is it the same as running an ordinary mic through a tube pre? Is it a bird? Is it a plane? Or is it...SUPERTUBE!

Thats a broad question Dobro, what tube mic and what tube pre are you talking about?

Well, imagine a Rode NTK through the Envoice, for example. A good pre, and a very good mic from all reports. But it all depends on the particular combination, then? I know the original question's a broad one, like you say, but I was wondering if it's a no-no to put tube thru tube because it screws the signal up somehow.

It all depends on the tube mic and tube pre..but no, it's not againt the rules to put a tube mic thru a tube pre :) The sound I like most for my vocals are a U47 thru a V72, both tube.

I'm glad you asked this question, dobro... because I, too have a MindPrint Envoice and I'm interested in getting the NTK.
I'm sure the NTK - Envoice combo will sound great, though. I'll start with the tube saturation at zero and play with it from there.
My Akai DPS-16 also has built-in preamps for each channel, so I have options to work with.
Jeez... I feel like a little kid waiting on the newest "Hot Wheels"!! :)

I'm gonna pick up this mic and put it through some tests, I hope it's as good as everyone says it is. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

you may need some digital ice to pack around your signal ... it could be a little too warm going through 2 tubes...
;)

seriously, I think that set up would sound awesome but definitely post your results ...
I've been considering getting a tube pre at some point, too.
