I'm not sure if the power ratings work like that, maybe they do. I don't know, can anyone confirm that a 15w amp is twice as loud as a 5w amp. Someone here a while back said the epi pushed 108db thru a single 12 cab.

Our ears respond to changes in sound intensity in an approximately logarithmic fashion. Doubling the power should roughly double the sound intensity, assuming roughly equivalent distortion levels. And doubling the sound intensity will roughly double the perceived loudnes, at least for medium to high volumes and middling frequencies. We can neglect the huge nonlinearities in human loudness contours at low volumes and low frequencies when we're talking about cranked guitar tones! :)

It's funny but before HangDawg exposed the recording method everyone was saying it was a modeller. As soon as he says it's not everyone says "I wouldn't have guessed a modeller"...

The bottom line of the deal is this, unless you are recording a CD with hopes of getting signed to a label, who cares!! Whatever sounds good to your ear, or your friends or whoever listens to your music is all that matters!!

Most people can't even tell the difference and this thread is proof!

I couldn't agree more!!

Modellers do not sound like crap - a really bad electric copy of a copy through a cheap homebuilt stereoamp or, as it where, no amp at all does!

I'm with you brother!!!!....beats playing my Sears guitar through my mom's stereo with headphones on!!!;) +1 on who ever said that for home recording for friends it's fine....

I think it comes down to hands on guitarists that have spent thousands on getting thier sound just right seeing new technology coming close, but not quite up to the mark....Give it a couple of years, they are getting better all the time!

I do both, I need some decent mic's (thanks to my kid and his friend) so lately I have been using the POD Guitar Port - I often Mix using my Strat over my Les Paul for better texture...I would probably do the same through an amp however....

I'm with ink3 - the sounds that come through the system from my Guitarport beat anything that I ever got from the series of cheap amps I owned in the old days. I still have an old Bandmaster Reverb (not that you could ever hear the reverb) with a 2x12 Fender cabinet that I never even plug in anymore for the same reason as most - inconveniencing neighbors or family members.
I have yet to use the Guitarport for layering tracks on my new Boss BR600, but look forward to it.
