but a mic is gonna be useful for more than just your amp so that would be one of my first purchases. Yiou can get a decent mic for less than $100 although I realize that that may be a big chunk of money.
Do you have any recording software yet?
And you mentioned Amplitude and Guitar Rig.
Do you have either of those?
Fact is ...... although I'm an amp guy ...... I've heard people get good results with either of those programs. Check out gregL's stuff .... he gets a flat out rocking git sound and he uses Guitar Rig I believe.
Sure ...... I still agree an amp's better but if you DO have a decent amp simulator you can get started right now.
And there are free ones of all of that too even if they're not as full featured as the ones you buy.
Ocnor knows his 'puter recording facts and can help you get started with minimum money.
Seems like I've seen mic pres as cheap as 30 bucks or so.
And I'm sure I've seen preamps with interface as cheap as maybe twice that.
You can get a mic that doesn't suck for maybe 50 bucks or so ..... get some cheap or free recording software and you're set!
No ...... they're not gonna let you make a grammy winning record probably ..... but they'll get you started and almost always have some small usefulness even when you get better stuff.
