Speaking of 're-recording', some violin would sound awesome on this song.... doncha think? ;)

Damn Straight, Buck. Nothing would please me more than to go back to Chicago and eat stuffed pizza and record.
However, DavidK is now Prof DavidK, I am now a college Prof these days:) Cant get out of town any time soon, but I have access to some pretty amazing toys these days (the college has a great recording studio), so maybe we can still lay down some tracks via mail: send me some tunes and I can lay down some tracks. I will give you more details later, my first day of work is Sat.
I also have my own band now: the Burning River String Station We all play with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and we are working on our first CD, so maybe I can get my bandmates to play a few notes as well. Cheers, Dave

Wow Buck, this is really a great song! I too was caught by the emotion and the lyrics. I played it for my daughter and she really liked it too. I think young people don't hear enough of these kinds of messages in music today, unfortunately.

I'm going to be one of those that like the reverb in the vocals. And I would keep it as much that way as possible if you re-record. Putting some violin in there is a wonderful idea!! I hope you and Davidk get together on this. By the way, congratulations DavidK, on your new job!

Very beautiful song! :)

Wow, thanx langley! :):):):):):):):):)

It's wonderful to know that you've touched someone's emotions with a song. I'm very happy that you liked this song, because it's one of those that came straight from the heart.
Thanx for playing it for your daughter, too. I think you're right about young people not getting the right messages these days.
It's very unfortunate.
The good thing is, there's still parents like you who care enough to show them the positive things in life. :)

Again, thank you...
Buck

Now that is the beauty of our modern technology. Buck, if Prof. DavidK will play the violin tracks for you, you could either send him a .wav of the song that he could add the violin too or even a CD via mail for another approach. I think that would be great. A song completed from opposite sides of the globe would be fun. Cheers.

Actually, Fangar, we've done it already!

Click on the little "website" button at the bottom of my post and scroll down to the song called "Doin' Nothin".
We collaborated with SmartApple (Teddie Tapawan) who did the vocals for this song after we sent him a copy of the music, the lyrics, and a scratch track of a vocal on the song, so he had an idea of how the melody went.
He did a vocal track on a seperate CD, sent it back to us, and we mixed it all down and edited accordingly.
This was a year before we actually met him in person.
Pretty cool, huh? ;)
Let me know if you like the song... it's a fun tune.

Buck

Thats cool buck. I like the song. I think that is the greatest thing to be able to do these days. Brings new meaning to "long distance relationship". Who says they can't worK?... MP3 proof that they can right there!

Cheers!

Just wanted to stop in and say thanks to all the folks who took a listen to this one....the positive response is very much appreciated!

I played it for my daughter and she really liked it too. I think young people don't hear enough of these kinds of messages in music today, unfortunately.
langleyt: We did this song way before 09-11-01 and part of the reason for it was the fact there were a lot of songs at that time with a lot of negative lyrics about cops....we just wanted people to know the other side of a story....thank you very much for sharing the song with your daughter....that was cool!....and glad to hear she liked it too!

Good stuff Buck & Mac. Loved the sound/effects on the guitar. I play at (and help organize) a benefit each year for a fallen officer in Fall River, Ma., with the proceeds going into a trust fund for his kids. Usually about 6 or seven Irish music groups in an all day/all night festival. D'ya mind if I put into the set list for this year's benefit?

fmmahoganyrush:
That would be great......we'd be honored to have the song included in the set list!

Mac2,

Bravo brother. That is great of you guys to lend the song. The gesture lends itself to the songs underlying meaning of tribute and thanks. Great.

Fangar

Well Done, Bucky!

I too liked the reverb on the voice...
Gave it that forlorn, isolated voice that fit great lyrics beautifully.

And I agree that some DavidK violin would be an eerie yet graceful touch.

I enjoyed the overall sparseness of the production, and it is a great tribute to fallen officers everywhere.

Yup Buck, let's do it.
The first thing I gotta do is get a second hard drive for audio, which I will be installing soon.
Send me a wav. file, or a CD by Snail mail ( I will email my address), and we can do this tune and Candlelight. I have my new string group now, and have a great Cellist, so we can add some violin and some Cello, which will sound awesome.
It has taken me some time, but my system is finally gonna work well once I get the hard drive. I bought SONAR and some plug-ins, so I will be ready to roll soon, I will let you know, Dave
