but what are the differance other than where they are placed? are they constructed the same way?
They are constructed exactly the same, in a frame wrapped in fabric. There are other ways of building bass traps, but this is probably the easiest and cheapest. It's nearly or just as effective as the others, apart from that it absorbs at all frequencies when the others are "tuned" only for bass.

On my way though the twinn cities I pick up some of the ultratouch:

Give them a call and see how much shipping would be.

It cost me under $100 for 8 pcs - 24"x94"x3.5" thick, I was thinking about the 5.5" stuff but the acoustical properties are not that much different (according to the spec sheets, and not that much diff from the 703) plus I like the Idea of it being safe seeing as I'm building these inside my living room.

Jeremy emailed me and asked me to chime in with my opinion of which room he should use. I've seen this thread, of course, but I didn't have much to add because everyone else already gave good advice. :D

If it were me I'd make the bigger room the control room and the smaller square room the recording room. A square room is not good for bass, so plan on a lot of bass trapping. Other than that, it looks like you're on the right track.

I wanted to thank everyone here who responded to this thread. I took your advise and the results were way better than expected. Though they are not all assembled and in use, I have purshased the materials to make a total of 18 absorbers for the two rooms. 6 with 4" mineral wool and 12 with 2" OC 703. I had a session yesterday and hope to finish tracking today. I used 7 absorbers in the 13 X 13 while tracking drums and the results were just AWESOME. I have 5 panels hanging in the 13 X 20...one on each side of me and directly be hind me between the closets, and 2 in the corners behind me. I will either finish building the others for the mix room or I will just move some from the drum room into here for the other corners while I mix. I also plan to put a couple overhead. Ill get some pix posted in the studio display forum soon I hope...

Thanks again to everyone.....
