What the hell is your point? My band had two songs written before I joined, and they even had one song finished. So? I sang my part, and wrote new lyrics/melody to the other. I guarantee Travis didn't play the same shit as the other dude. Steve I think his name was.

Yeah, the original recording of "mutt" with their old drummer SCOTT was leaked on the internet and it's quite different from the one that ended up on the album. Still, the arrangement was exactly the same and didn't really benefit from Travis playing it different. The old version is actually better, and the one on Enema sounds overproduced and crowded compared to it. Thanks Travis!

The drummer for Nocturnal Fear, makes Blink sound like a little girl playing drums with barbie heads.
Blink Blows, IMO

I just got done reading this whole thread (why did I waste my time?) and I have to say I agree with The Seifer here.

Blink 182 are popular because of good songwriting. Dude Ranch and Enema of the State were their best albums.

I think it's funny that when someone says they write good songs, everyone starts looking at the lyrics. Maybe in your world the lyrics comprise the "songwriting," but in the real world, "good songs" have to have more than good words.

And despite what the music snobs think, popularity is not something that the labels can control. Blink isn't popular because a label put them up on a poster or played them on the radio. It takes a lot more than that!

Blink had good songs. They became popular because of that. End of story.

And I'm not even a Blink 182 fan . . .

Thanks for reading. This is my second or third post here. I like your forums.

...

1) Someone cited themselves as a huge punk rocker earlier in this thread. Blink 182 is power pop. Not punk rock. Get over it-- you only like mainstream music or that that you heard was "punk."

2) Travis is an amazing drummer. There's no way around it, whether or not you like the band doesn't matter. He overplays on occasion but has the unique ability (unique in the last 5 years) of making drum parts that add to the song instead of taking away from it.

3) Anyone citing "Stay Together..." as an "old" song is an idiot. Old songs were on Buddha or Cheshire Cat (albums with really basic but effective drum parts). Please do research before making band statements.

4) Blink 182 is shit now.

Only dumbasses put all these bullshit labels on bands. "Power pop" is just that. Bullshit.

Blink has always been a punk band and they always will be. People who disagree are the types that pretend to hate anything remotely related to popular culture so people will think they are "different" and "rebellious." They believe that pretending to hate popular "mainstream" bands makes them cool.

Blink used to be an awesome punk band. Now they're a shitty old punk band that is still famous.

I still think the drum part on adams song is so perfect and fitting for the song. Builds it up nicely. Go listen if you feel inclined.

Practice your rudiments, guys!
It's as easy as that!

Seriously, do it. For those of you who think rudiments are over-rated, or are only for marching band snare percussionists, you're horribly mistaken! So get started!

As for Travis, he was a huge inspiration for me. I don't believe he's, at all, over-rated. He's an extremely modest character, who showed everyone that with dedication, you can do anything(if you know about his past). If you're really into him, and have seen/heard his more "professional" stuff(ie. jazz sessions, solos, etc), and you're a real drummer, then you'd know he's definately something. ;)

Okay, I listened to some Nocturnal Fear.... (all of the songs available from their website)

The drummer has no rythm
The drummer is half tone-deaf
The drummer has no creativity
The drummer's dynamics are half-horrible
I give the drummer a 6/10 rating
(And I give the whole band a 6/10 rating [based on their skill with their instruments] - I give them a 4/10 rating based on how much I like them)

Travis Barker is much better.

(This is my opinion, ofcourse you may think differently)

Travis is playing the current blink tour with a broken right foot. He has two high hats, an open and closed one and plays his kick drum with his left foot on a double bass pedal.

that's whackass good.

Selfer,

You're one of these 12-year-olds who believes they are "punk;" punk died in 1983. Blink-182 is simply power pop that you think is punk because Carson Daly tells you so.

Don't buy the hype.

I got lost when NoFX was essentially called a talentless Blink 182.... Wow. Too bad that NoFX has been around for 17 years now. NoFX is one of the founder of the modern pop punk. The fast galopping beats, with poppy melodies, lots of harmonies and just a touch of hair metal.

I know my two bits don't mean a damned thing here, as it's just "my" opinion, but Blink 182 sux ..... Gimme some Slayer, Pantera, Anthrax, Megadeath, Tool or Dream Theater .... Now theres F'in kick azz music!!!

Actually shitface, I'm 22 years old and I was punk long before it was so cool. I had blink records when they were just dipshit kids on an indie label, and they were most definately punk. You're the dipshit who listens to that gay nig ger Carson Daly, except you pretend to hate everything that he plays so people will think you're a rebel.

Whoa bro... you need to chill out. What's with you and the notion that people try to be something they're not? We're all cool here. You just need to calm down man. This place has got a good reputation... don't ruin it over stupid stuff.

I'm not saying you're purposely posing as a punk; I'm sure your Avril Lavigne influenced mixtape is fantastic. You just are ignorant if you think punk is Blink182. If you're 22 and still calling Blink-182 a punk band, I'd think you have to graduate junior high.

Neither Blink 182 or you are punk. Sorry.

But, to keep the topic-- Travis is an amazing drummer in an amazingly power-poppy band.

yeah yeah go rip holes in your dead kennedy's shirt and shut the fuck up
