travis barker from blink 182

how come when the word "punk" gets mentioned people have to go on about what punk is and what punk isn't?

seriously, who cares?

Not me. Seems too much like whipping out your wang at the urinal to measure with the guy beside you.

Blink 182 = pop.
Punk for me now days is stuff like Strung Out, Good Riddance, Pennywise, Bad Religion (and their first release was 1980) etc. I hate these punk's dead arguements. Why does it have to be dead just because the founding bands aren't around anymore? Music evolves with time, which means the sound that defines a genre also changes. I think what happened was record company people realised that the things that define punk, if watered down enough would appeal to the younger pop music listeners. Thats why we have 'punk' bands like Good Charlotte, New Found Glory, new Blink 182 (lets face it they sold out big time) and (dare I say it) Avril getting around making megabucks.

If you listen to punk bands today, they are still agressive, fast, and singing about the same basic things as the bands were 30 years ago. Most of them are a bit more than 3 chords for an album though.

hey

well i have read most of these skipped a few tho.. just thought i would say i saw travis live about a month ago in detroit and he had a broken right foot.. he played everything flawlessly with his left foot... i'm sure he has a double bass pedal.. i mean i kno plenty of people who use double bass pedals but hadly ever use the left foot.. its just for that slight chance u might use it..

How could you guys possibly have a Travis Barker thread with 3 pages and never mention his drumming for the Aquabats? That was great drumming. Sure they were corny songs, but the musicianship on the early records is amazing. Maybe nobody realized that Baron von Tito is in fact Travis.

I'd also like to point out that the people who say "this is punk and that is punk" are a bunch of fools. Punk is more of a community now than a genre. And the music is really wide in styles. YES, Blink 182 is a punk band. They just happen to be a new school pop punk band. NO they aren't like Fear or the Misfits. They are more like the Descendants, which the last time I checked were considered punk. The fools that think punk is a sacred thing of the past, are the same morons that broke Jello Biafras legs while calling him a sell out. Try to keep you punk pride in check.

fucanay

First, travis does some cool things in their lame songs... but they aren't really that mind boggling. As for this link -> http://www.drummerworld.com/Videos/TravisBarker.html ... doesn't impres me at all. anyone who adds a corny beat in the middle of their solo like that should be shot on site. lastly, i don't see travis doing anything an average player wouldn't be able to do. Buddy Rich, Neil Peart, Dave Weckl.... please... dont even put travis in the same category. Travis is a punk drummer.... while the others I just mentioned are true artists. I don't know anyone who as a hard time rolling across their drums or playing a corny pop beat in the middle of their great 'solo'.... just give it a break... he's no buddy or weckl and he'll never be.

shut up

listen. all you little faggot ass bitches who are jerkin on travis are just fuckin jealous cuz he will blow any of your 'drummers' out of the fuckin water. and y'all know that. travis barker is the best fuckin drummer in the world. and there is no doubt about that one. so all y'all trick ass bitches need to shut your fuckin mouths bcuz your 'drummers' dont have shit on travis. he will kick there asses and still have energy to put on a show. and thats final.

MWAAAAAAAAAHAHAHA! :D

To say that Travis Barker is better than any of the drummers anyone is thinking of is complete ignorance. ONE drummer that I am thinking of is John Bonham. I'm not sure how much you have seen from him, but if you can go out and pick up the Led Zeppelin DVD that came out a year ago, 15 minutes of some of the most creative and amazing drumming. Watch that, your opinion should change. If not, you are obviously blind and deaf. If your interested in more try the How The West Was Won triple cd set also, which features a 20 minute drum solo.

I've downloaded what is called a drum solo from travis barker. Its on my computer and its named " something to make me feel better.mp3". It's 2:22 in length and the actual drum solo is only 1:28, which wouldn't even qualify as goofing around on a set of drums. He then throws a beat into the "solo"? So what we now have is a song, without guitar or bass.

His Creativity is no where near Any great drummers. Go back to the greats, Buddy Rich, John Bonham, Ginger Baker, Neil Peart,(i know there are more..) they were all doing historical innovative stuff, that still stands up today, and that was 30 years ago +!

The opening two seconds to John Bonhams drum solo song " Moby Dick " grabs my attention more than all ONE minute and thirty seconds of travis barkers drum.... uhhh... thing? A drum solo is supposed to show what you can do. Not what everyone else can.

Anti-Flag!!!!! oh and how the fuck did this thing start talking about punk, i believe the author was trying to make a valid point on how travis is an extremly talented drummer who plays in a pretty good power pop band...

Alright first of all, i happen to like blink they are the ones who influenced me into liking "Punk" without them i wouldnt no of bands like anti-flag,dropkick, the unseen, ect... second of all ive never heard of a song or anything labeld by blink " something to make me feel better" so they might not even be blink, 3rd since when did a drum solo make you a good drummer, and 4th the beat thrown into what you are hearing if it is blink, is what is called a hip hop beat, drummers now a days like to throw them into thier "solos" to show they can play more than a fucking blast beat... i love how you everyone ripps on travis, but hes out there traveling the word and getting payed to do something he loves, so he wins...

Travis is a punk drummer...

How the fuck is he a punk Drummer he plays in a pop punk band, so... he grew up playing fusion, jazz, latin, ska, tons of stuff besides just fucking punk u no nothing about him just that hes in blink 182... you see one solo that was filmed live, and the next time u see him he wont even be doing the same thing he switches it up all the time, and hes won alot of mordern drummer awards and hes only 28, so how can you say hes never gonna be as good as the drummers you listed, if he isnt already as good... if i can ill find u some links of travis just freestyling on his kit, they post videos on the blink site, and let me tell you the things that he can do our far better than that clip you seen, you should see him playing that marching band stuff he is incredible...

alright what ever. all you travis hatein homos are just pissed cuz you know that no one out there has the balls to stand up to travis. and thats a true fact. nobody has the guts to try and take on travis, cuz they know that they are just going to get shot the fuck down.

p.s. if u guys have seen blink in concert, u know that travis can bust out some sweet ass shit. if your trying to tell me that his rotating flipping platform that be plays on aint one of the kewlest things youve ever seen. u better get your shit sorted.

The only reason he uses that platform is to cover the fact that hes not that great of a drummer he just has a lot of idiot "punks" who support him allow him to buy worthless crap.

The song is labeled Something to make Me feel better, because I named it that. I'm 100% sure it's blink 182 and travis barker, and that its live. I think it's funny people mention again that he changes it up night to night. I know I spoke about John Bonham before, and here it is again, he never played the same thing twice. Not even in songs, and definetly in drum solos, from night to night. I'm not trying to bag on travis barker here at all, I don't even usually apply to these, but when someone said that he can out drum anyone? Come on.. He's not and never will be that talented..

I think this thread is beyond retarded now, but I said before he's a punk drummer b/c i consider (atleast when I used to listen to them) blink182 punk. I said nothing about the type of music he could play. I have yet to find a live recording of him that doesn't sound like total shit... If you can find me one, let me know, I'm interested in actually seeing him not suck ass for once.

Travis is what... 25 years old? ...Heh, and you're judging his performance off of one clip you heard.. let alone 1:28 seconds. i agree that John Bonham was good, but he wasn't as great as everyone makes him out to be. Him and the band was the music that got me started with drumming, but now that I look back on everything they've done, I can't really say he's an AWESOME drummer. Travis definately beats him in speed and dynamics, and if you go out and find some more solo Travis stuff, you can get an idea of some of the other "creative" genres he can play, all good.

If you want, look for blink's Big Day Out tour videos from 2000 (4 years ago!) (You can get them on mIRC or Limewire)... Travis will awe you with some of the stuff ;)
