Travel Friendly Equipment (KORG KP3 too!)

Hi Guys,

I am currently overseas with limited resources, and it will be that way for a few more months yet unfortunately.

I currently play alot of guitar and have a Manson MB-1 awaiting me for when I get home. I intend to have a little setup around it, the Korg KP3 being my first investment to accompany the MB-1's controller.

Given that I can't really have a guitar over here - would it be doable to buy the KP3 and have it sent over here in advance so I can play with it for a couple of months on it's own? What sort of kit would I need to make something like that plausible?

Does anyone have any other ideas for travel friendly equipment? I have my laptop and get a couple of hours before bed on fruity loops - but is there any hard OR software you think could keep me occupied over here until I can go balls out and blow some cash when I get home?

Any help appreciated. As always :)

i spent three months in south east asia last year and took a netbook (a decent one though) a pair of AT cans and an Akia LPK25 controller (way better than the Korg minis)...did quite a few sketches..I used a small Line 6 GX studio as an interface and bought a cheapo guitar whilst over there...everything, other than the guitar, fitted in a small laptop bag

I still have the guitar, it was cheaper than buying a travel guitar new out of the store. I shipped it back thinking if it became matchwood it was cheap any way, it made it in one piece and now is my beach/camping/vacation guitar :)

I spent a lot of time with izotopes idrum and the goldbaby expansion also..cheap and instantaneous, whiled away hours and I used the beats I made on loads of tracks for months afterwards

hope theres something in there helpful if not count it as my blog entry :D

Thanks heaps mate.

I've got another five months here but can get stuff posted over, and have a few American contacts on base too - so they're happy for me to get stuff delivered from the US through them.

I really don't want to waste the (very little) spare time I have here, given that when I get home I'm all pumped up to get recording and learn the synth and MIDI world.

Thanks for your thoughts mate. I'll see what I can tee up :)

Hey if youre up for a bit of reading try Roey Inzaghi's Mixing Audio...written in laymans terms, easy to digest, and really helps you move up a notch if mixing is a weakness...

Thanks heaps Keith, I'll get it sent over and have a read.

Appreciate your input :)
