Hey everyone, I originally posted this over in the "recording techniques" forum, but I think I probably should have put it here instead:

Okay, here's the deal: If I were to use an MR-8 for tracking purposes, then connect it via USB to my computer with the intention of mixing in Cakewalk or N-tracks or something similar, does each track show up separately? I know it's possible, but I'm not really sure what steps you have to take.

Thanks a ton for any help you can offer.

First of all you go to the Fostex site and download wavmanager (don't have the link but do a search on here and it will come up). The wavmanager will make it a lot easier to transfer tracks.
Each track shows up separately because you can only transfer one at a time. Where ever you save them to they will show up tr01.wav, tr02.wav, etc.

By the way, this is the best place to come for MR-8 help. When you need something else just let us know.

Oh, ok! I understand now. I didn't realize you had to transfer one track at a time. So essentially, if you save each track to your desktop, you're just importing each one individually, then assigning a specific track number to each, correct?

Thanks a ton for your help. I'm sure I'll be popping in with quite a few more questions as the weeks go by, especially considering I don't even own the machine yet!

You really don't have to assign the track numbers...MR8 does that for you. The only time I assign track numbers is when I'm downloading tracks to a file that already has those track numbers. In other words, if I have tr.01 and tr.02 in the file already and I have recorded on tracks 1 and 2 and I want to put them in the same file...I change the original tracks to tr.11 and tr.12 just to keep from confusing the computer.
