trademark manipulation for a band name

Hi there,
I have a trademark question. My band came up with a name that is already trademarked. The name is White Noise. I realized that the way around this is to add some more to the registered name. So it will officially be White Noise and the something something (not really something something, but I didn't want to say the whole name.) So my questions are a) will this be likely to cause trouble down the road with the owner of "White Noise?" b) Will it always be necessary to promote ourselves as the long name or will it be ok if we promote ourselves as "White Noise" from time to time?

I'd just change the name. A lot of trademarked name owners are ferocious in protecting that mark. I'm a cl.41 owner myself for Stonehenge. There are several bands out there that are using that name, but many have also been served.

The latest cool side-effect was from none other than Disney/PDI/DreamWorks... There's an implied band in Shrek 2 called Stonehenge. As soon as post-pro was done on the movie, their people called my (person) and I just got the check last week (for an undisclosed amount - no new car out of this one). This was a pretty unique situation, as if *I* saw it on the screen, I don't know if I'd have the ball$ to go after DreamWorks, you know? But their people there were very thorough about making sure that they properly credited any copyright holders. Better to do it before someone comes after you, I suppose...

Anyway, you'd really be better off getting away from the White Noise name altogether - They're still touring with David Vorhaus if I'm not mistaken. I know it's been a little time since the "hey day" but that was a pretty serious breakthrough bunch.
 
yeah i agree...change the name....you guys can do better than the name white noise anyway...too close to white snake for my taste....unless yall are a white snake coverband
 
Definitely change the name. Anything that would confuse people, whether it be spelled Whyte Noize, Whyyyyyt Noyz, or any other way will be a potential problem for you.

You may fine the band name generator helpful. :D
 
That's cool - I like "Savage Genitals."

Most of the names seem to follow the same [adjective] [noun] pattern also. That's a good thing.
 
I'm just curious here,but can someone tell me how u get ur name trademark.I have a few artist down here that need that done befo9re their album gets finished,I also need to do that with mine(Plus the label name)

We need a name for our new band. There's a brilliant TV advert running here in the UK for a brand of orange juice, in which one parrot says to another parrot "no, you can't do the salsa, here comes Crazy Dolores"

So I wanna call the band Crazy Dolores :)
 
The White Noise
White noises
Whitenoise (one word)
White Neuse (good reference to krautrock band Neu for street cred)
add "The" to any of these
Noise of the White
Pink Noise (similar to white noise)
