People,

Was wondering if any members had any experience with A.R.T.'s TPS II.

I need pro quality mic preamplification, but also pro quality line level preamp capabilities, as well (for a Roland JV-1010 synth module.) Had previously picked up a Focusrite Twin Trak Pro channel strip, which was great for mic amping but lousy (in my estimate) for line level amping (&...I always wanted a tube preamp system, anyway...but went with the Focusrite sight unseen, for some unexplained reason.)

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,

I'm no expert, but I don't think you're going to get 'pro quality' mic preamping for the $180 (or whatever) the TPS II cost. I've got the original TPS, and it's not much for that kind of work. Course version II might be better

You looking to mic amps specifically, or vocal work as well? You looking for two channel (at least)? What price range (under $200 as the TPS II is)?

kragbax...

I think I came to that conclusion about the same time you did. So, in following up: How about dbx tube based preamps (the 376 Channel Strip & the 386 Tube Pre)?

They look pretty interesting; with quality specs...& I noticed the gain range for the line inputs is -15dB to +15dB, a full 10dB more boost than my Focusrite.

Thanks again,

I don't think you could call $90 a channel "pro", but I have a TPS2 and it works just fine for what I'm doing.

i think the art- tps-dps gives you some nice options for making a synth or a drum machine less sterile while recording or even live play. its got the rotary dial so you can hear the different voicings on the fly. i dont think you need a great mic pre to add flavor. the art tube mp works too.
