Top 10 guitar riffs and licks.

I don't see the solo from "Reelin' In The Years" either. :D

While that's one of my favorite solos from one of my favorite songs from one my favorite bands, I wouldn't call the solo a 'riff'.

Nakatira,

While I wouldn't necessarily agree with your choice for most memorable, must-learn riffs, I gotta say I really dig your taste in music. Norway rocks!

Some of you guys are just listing your favorite songs and shit. Where's the riff in Hotel California?

Anything where you can play the first two bars of it and everyone (not just guitar players) knows what it is, is a riff in my book. I didn't say it was the best, but it certainly is one of the most recognizable.

I'm glad to see Day tripper was mentioned.

I have to say this is my favorite riff to practice. It has always goten me through a run.

I'm ashamed I forgot Ziggy Stardust - Mick Ronson was a riff machine I mean between him & Bowie - wow Gene Genie etc etc etc etc.
I did, indeed, select what I reckon are great & usually primal riffs some of which have interrelationships: Breadfan, Paranoid & Black Knight have quite a few links. Most I mentioned fit the criteria by being fairly simple, short and easy too - I mean even I can play most of 'em. There are exceptions like Televison & Parents by Budgie - I can't play them & the latter has one ascending chord prog with a descending guitar figure (or visa versa) but it is primal.
If I were to List solos or songs I'd go on forever.

I don't know, but ones people should purposely NOT learn are:

Slow Walking Walter (Smoke on the Water)
Stairway
Purple Haze
Wild Thing

1. Johnny B. Goode -- Chuck Berry
2. Sunshine -- Cream/Clapton
3. SOTW -- Deep Purple
4. Repeat 1-3 and you now know rock-n-roll.

How about-
Where have all the good times gone-Kinks
Honey Don't-Carl Perkins
War Pigs-Black Sabbath
Sky High Percentage-Budgie
Smokin' Gun-Robert Cray
Same old song & dance-Aerosmith
Clock strikes 10-Cheap Trick
Woman from Tokyo-Deep purple
I'm losin' you-John Lennon
Billion Dollar Babies-Alice Cooper
