I'm an unapologetic Brian May fanboy! We watched Brian play at the Olympic closing ceremony (TV that is), and my 9 year old asked me "Why is he wearing that weird wig?"

Yes. Right down to the coils. The other bit of ingenuity was created by John Deacon, from a discarded car radio randomly found in a rubbish skip. That became the Deacy Amp which produced many of Brian's other signature tones. Brian plugged a treble boost pedal into the Deacy and it produced all sorts of weird and wonderful tones through it's <1 watt output. A lot of the magic is put down to germanium semiconductors.
The Deacy has survived all these years and in the last few years was disassembled and reverse engineered. You can get one here! Go on, get a Deacy, a treble boost pedal and a Red Special - unleash your inner Brian May!
